NIKKI ROSENOW OF
ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, a first-year second baseman from
Valparaiso, Ind., has
been selected as the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week.
Rosenow led the Rose-Hulman softball team in both batting and
pitching, helping the Engineers finish third in the 2001 SCAC Tournament.
Rosenow batted .909 in the tourney (10-for-11) with two doubles, four runs
scored and five RBIs. Rosenow recorded an on-base percentage of .917 and a
slugging average of 1.091 with one stolen base and a perfect 1.000 fielding
percentage at second, third and pitcher.
Other outstanding
individual performances in the SCAC:
Junior first baseman Shannon George of Trinity led
the Tigers in batting average (.500 / 5-for-10), runs (4), hits (5), triples
(2), RBIs (3) and total bases (9) over the weekend as Trinity won its
third-consecutive SCAC championship. George capped the weekend with a 3-for-4
performance in the title game, scoring two runs and driving in two more in the
5-1 victory over Rhodes. DePauw and Rhodes did not nominate anyone for
the award, and Centre, Hendrix, Millsaps and Sewanee
did not play.

REBECCA SANDERS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore pitcher from
Sammamish, Wash., has been selected as the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for the
fifth time this season.
Sanders took the win in all three games in the SCAC tournament,
leading Trinity to its third-straight SCAC title. Sanders held an ERA of 0.39
for the tournament, allowing just one earned run in 18.0 innings of work. She
had two complete games in her two starts of the weekend, and came in to pick up
a win in relief in the second game against Rose-Hulman. Sanders allowed just 11
hits for the weekend, striking out seven hitters.
Other
outstanding individual performances in the SCAC:
First-year pitcher Nikki Rosenow of Rose-Hulman finished 1-1
with a 1.85 earned run average as the Engineers went 1-2 and finished third at
the SCAC championships. She allowed three earned runs in 11.1 innings of work
with one complete-game. DePauw and Rhodes did not nominate anyone for
the award, and Centre, Hendrix, Millsaps and Sewanee
did not play.
Trinity Softball Eliminated in NCAA Regionals
PELLA, Iowa - The Trinity Tigers softball team was eliminated from the NCAA Division III regional tournament Friday at Central College.
Third-seeded Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) University eliminated the fifth-seeded Tigers with a 6-1 victory in the second game for both teams. Webster (Mo.) University, the No. 4 seeds, edged Trinity 2-1 in the opening game, snapping the Tigers' 23-game winning streak.
The Tigers finished the year at 29-10 and won their third-straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) title. Trinity made its second consecutive NCAA appearance.
Senior outfielder Noelle Stockman went three-for-three for the Tigers in the second game. In the opening game, Webster broke a 1-1 deadlock by scoring the winning run on a passed ball in the seventh inning. Junior catcher Ali Woods, the SCAC Player-of-the-Year, went one-for-three for the Tigers with one RBI.
Trinity
Sweeps Major Awards in All-SCAC Softball Voting
On the heels of its 2001 Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference (SCAC) softball title, its third-consecutive league
championship, Trinity University swept the three major post-season awards –
Player, Pitcher and Coach-of-the-Year, in exclusive all-conference voting by the
league’s head coaches.
Junior catcher Ali Woods was selected the SCAC Player-of-the-Year. This season,
the two-time All-SCAC performer finished fourth in the league in hitting (.421)
and was fifth in both RBIs (32 total - .86/game) and doubles (11 total -
.30/game).
Tiger sophomore Rebecca Sanders was picked as the SCAC Pitcher-of-the-Year.
Sanders, also a two-time all-SCAC recipient, led the league in wins (20), ERA
(1.06), winning percentage (20-4 - .833) and strikeouts per 7 innings pitched
(5.48). Both her ERA and win total are new SCAC single-season records.
First-year coach Roland Rodriguez was selected as the SCAC Coach-of-the-Year
after leading the Tigers to a 29-8 overall record, a 17-1 mark in the SCAC
Western Division and the conference championship at the Spring Sports Festival.
Trinity earned the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and begins
regional play Friday, May 11, against Webster (Mo.) University (36-7). Central
(Iowa) College is the host school for the Seed 1 regional.
