Jim Evans as the

Oglethorpe names Woods as Head Women's Soccer Coach

In a press conference
held earlier this month in the Traditions area of the Dorough
Field House, Alan Woods was named the new women's soccer head
coach for Oglethorpe University. Woods, who played Division I
soccer for both the University of Notre Dame and Clemson
University, was the 10th overall selection in the 2000 MLS
draft.

For the second
consecutive week, the
SCAC has four schools in the NSCAA/adidas regional
rankings. In the South Region, Trinity University (12-3-1) is
fourth for the second consecutive week. Southwestern University (13-4-0),
won twice in SCAC play and improved a place to ninth, while Rhodes College
(10-6-1) went 1-0-1 and remained at 10th for the second
straight week. Over in the Great Lakes Region, Centre (11-5-1)
improved one place to sixth after winning its only match of
the week.

time in over a month, the
SCAC has four schools in the NSCAA/adidas regional
rankings. In the South Region, Trinity University (10-3-1), with
a win over DePauw, 2-0 and a tie with Centre, 1-1 in
double-overtime, improves fifth to fourth. Southwestern University (11-4-0),
who lost to Centre, 2-1, before defeating DePauw, 2-1 in
overtime, remains at 10th for the third consecutive week. The Pirates
are joined at 10th by Rhodes College, who picked up victories
over Methodist, 2-1, and Hendrix, 2-0, and re-entered the
rankings after a two-week absence. Over in the Great Lakes Region, Centre (10-5-1)
remained in seventh for the second consecutive week, despite
an impressive win against Southwestern and draw against
Trinity.

Junior defender Lizzie Hubbard of
Centre (far left) and junior forward Erin Sanford of Millsaps

named to the D3kicks.com National Team of the Week. Hubbard
played a solid defensive game for the Colonels on Sunday
against Ohio Northern. Her distribution out of the back,
strong play, and ability to win the ball in the air helped the
Colonels secure their first shutout of the season. Sanford,
playing her first matches since injuring her knee a year and a
half ago, led the Majors to their first season-opening road
win in school history (dating to 1991). Sanford scored off an
assist from teammate Megan Sullivan to top Spelman, 1-0.

DePauw moved up
from 23rd to 16th in the first regular season NSCAA/adidas
poll of the 2007 season. The Tigers (1-1-0) split its two
games over the opening weekend - dropping 2-0 to Westmont
before rebounding with a 1-0 victory over Loras. Trinity
(0-2-0), which was ranked ninth in the preseason poll, dropped
out of the Top 25 after losses to fourth-ranked Hardin-Simmons
