DePauw finishes fourth, Rhodes fifth at
NCAA Women's
Golf Championships
Both
schools maintain position for the duration of tournament
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.
- DePauw University
and Rhodes College gave new meaning to the word "consistent" as the
two SCAC schools ended round one in fourth and fifth respectively, and when
the 2002 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships ended on Friday, both
found themselves in the same position. (Complete

DePauw shot a final-round 331 to finish at +235, just three strokes behind
third-place Amherst College. Rhodes fired a final-round 343 to finish at +248
- enough to hold off sixth-place McMurry University by one stroke.
Methodist College started the day with a 21-shot lead and expanded that to a
31-shot victory with a final-round 322 to take the school's third-consecutive
women's championship. It was the second straight round of 322 for Methodist.
Mary Hardin-Baylor finished in second.
For DePauw, Jessica Schneider shot the low round on Friday with an 80. She was
also the low individual for the tournament for the Tigers, finishing at +57
and in 24th place. Also on Friday for DePauw, Audra Butts fired an 80 and
finished in 26th place. Lindsay Amore had an 89 (30th), Deb Garriott shot 86
(33rd) and Mandy Levy had an 84 (54th).
For Rhodes, Laura McKinney had a team-low 80 on Friday - the
fourth-consecutive day she led the Lynx. McKinney finished 12th overall at
+45. Whitney Bryant shot an 88 and Lauren Kwedar shot 90 and both finished
tied for 40th place overall. Allsion Baltusis finished with a final-round 85
and in 48th place overall. Mary Jaco withdrew from the tournament on Friday.

Just
one shot separates two SCAC schools
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.
- Rhodes College
shot a third-round 340 to pull within one stroke of DePauw University - who
shot a 344 - as the two head into Friday's final round of the 2002 NCAA
Division III Women's Golf Championships. For both schools, Thursday's showing
was their best efforts of the tournament.

With only one round to play, DePauw maintained its hold on fourth place, but
the Lynx are just one shot back in fifth. Both teams have to hold off McMurry
University, who is in sixth place - just three shots behind Rhodes.
Methodist College is still in first place by 21 shots after a
third-round 322. Mary Hardin-Baylor is second and Amherst is third.
For DePauw, Audra Butts had the low round of the day with an 82,
followed by Deb Garriott with an 86, Lindsay Amore with an 87, Jessica
Schneider with an 89 and Mandy Levy with a 94.
For Rhodes, all five players shot in the 80s. Laura McKinney had the
team's low round for the third consecutive day as she fired an 81. Lauren
Kwedar followed with an 84, Mary Jaco had an 87, Allsion Baltusis shot an 88
and Whitney Bryant had an 89.

extends lead to 21 shots
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -
There was not much movement on the leaderboard as DePauw University remained in
fourth and Rhodes College is tied for fifth after Wednesday's second round of
the 2002 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. (Complete

Scores were up across the board from the first round as DePauw followed
Tuesday's 348 with a 364 but still sits in third place - five shots better than
both Rhodes and McMurry (Tex.) University. The Lynx duplicated the DePauw effort
with a second-round 364.
Methodist once again shot the day's low round with a 339.
Lindsey Amore was the only DePauw player to shoot in the 80s as she finished
with an 85. Jessica Schneider shot 90, followed by Deb Garriott with a 92, Audra
Butts with a 97 and Mandy Levy with a 102.
For Rhodes, Laura McKinney had the only sub-90 round for the Lynx, firing a
second-round 87. Lauren Kwedar shot a 90, Mary Jaco had a 93, Whitney Bryant a
94 and Allsion Baltusis finshed with a 103.
The tournament continues tomorrow and runs through Friday at the Orchards Golf

NCAA Women's Golf Championships

holds early 15 shot lead
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.
- DePauw University
and Rhodes College both made good showings in Tuesday's first round action of
the 2002 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. DePauw fired a 348 and
Rhodes followed at 353 as the two SCAC representatives sit at fourth and fifth
respectively with three days of competition remaining. Two-time defending
champion Methodist College jumped out to a 15-shot lead by firing an
opening-round 327. (Complete

DePauw was led on day one by Jessica Schneider with an 86 - good for the 16th
best round overall. Just behind Schneider was Deb Garriott and Audra Butts,
who each fired first-round 87s. Lindsay Amore had an 88 and Mandy Levy
finished with a 94 for the Tigers.
For Rhodes, Laura McKinney, the 2002 SCAC Women's Golfer-of-the-Year, fired a
first-round 85 which placed her 14th overall. Whitney Bryant shot an 87 and
Allsion Baltusis finished at 89 for the Lynx, followed by Mary Jaco with a 92
and Lauren Kwedar with a 94.

DePauw
and Rhodes women secure bids to NCAA Championships

has two of 10 schools participating for 2002 title
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee has selected ten teams and ten
individuals that will participate in the NCAA Division III Women's Golf
Championships.
The championships will be
conducted May 14-17 at The Orchards Golf Club on the campus of Mount Holyoke
College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
Two teams from each of the five
regions were selected for the championships. In addition, ten individuals not
from selected teams also qualified for the championships. Regions 2 and 3
received three individual berths, Region 4 received two individual berths, and
Regions 1 and 5 received one individual berth each.
The championships will consist of
both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. All participants
will compete throughout the 72 holes of competition. In the team competition,
the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total

MEN THREE-PEAT AS SCAC GOLF CHAMPIONS;
DEPAUW WOMEN EARN FIRST LINKS TITLE

JACKSON,
Miss. – Oglethorpe’s Chris Summers shot a two-day total of 150 to become
the school’s fourth golfer to take medallist honors and lead the Petrels to
their third-consecutive men’s golf championship.
Oglethorpe, which as won four of the last five SCAC men’s golf titles,
defeated second-place Trinity by nine shots (626-635).
On the women’s side, DePauw University broke Rhodes College’s two-year run
as conference champions, defeating the Lynx 706-711. All five DePauw golfers
earned all-conference honors, an unequaled feat in the history of the
championships.
Laura McKinney of Rhodes, who shot a two-day total of 165, continued the
school’s tradition of garnering top medallist honors, becoming the fourth Lynx
linkster in the last six competed championships to be so honored (there was no
tournament in 1997).
Rhodes Women Golfers Finish Third at
2001 NCAA DIII National Championships
Decatur, Ill. - After sitting in second place for three consecutive days, Rhodes College shot a fourth-round 319 for a four-day total of 1270 (+118) and a third place finish at the 2001 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf championships – the second-consecutive year that Rhodes has finished third at the national tournament.
Methodist College (+62) won the championship by 50 shots over Concordia (Minn.) College, who charged to second place (+112) with a final-round 312.
The Lynx were led by senior Emily Burch, who finished third overall and shot a four-day total of 302 (+14), including a fourth-round tournament-low score of 71. Whitney Bryant finished 21st (319 / +31), Agnes Surowka finished 28th (324 / +36) and Laura McKinney and Lauren Kwedar finished tied for 42nd (335 / +47).
Deb Garriott of DePauw University shot a four-day total of 326 (+38) to finish in a tie for 30th.

At the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) awards dinner, held in conjunction with the national championships, Rhode’s Burch was named First Team All-American and teammates Surowka, Bryant and Kwedar were selected to the NGCA All-Academic team.
