Page, Kenna, Lenhart and Walker take major awards in All-SCAC Baseball voting

Millsaps College, after winning the SCAC Western Division, had two of its players among the three sharing post-season honors and DePauw University and Oglethorpe University had one representative each in exclusive 2001 all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference voting by the league’s head coaches.

Brandon Page of Millsaps, a junior outfielder from Amarillo, Texas, was selected as the SCAC Player-of-the-Year. Page hit .404 on the season with six home runs, 12 doubles, three triples and led the league in runs scored (59 in 39 games). He also stole 23 bases and drove in 35 runs.

Page’s teammate Chat Lenhart, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, was selected as SCAC Co-Pitcher-of-the-Year. Lenhart finished the season with eight wins against just two losses and an ERA of 4.24. His eight wins tied for the conference lead. He appeared in 16 games and threw 87.0 innings.

Sharing Pitcher-of-the-Year honors with Lenhart was Brian Kenna of Oglethorpe, a senior from Tampa, Fla. Kenna finished the season at 6-4, throwing 79.1 innings with an ERA of 3.40. He won the only game for the Petrels in the SCAC tournament, defeating Rose-Hulman 5-3 and finished his career with eight-consecutive regular season conference wins without a loss.

DePauw head coach Matt Walker, in his first full season as the Tigers’ skipper, led his squad to the top of the SCAC Eastern Division and the league’s conference tournament title at the Spring Sports Festival. After two seasons of two-and-out in the conference tournament, the Tigers advanced to the championship game with victories over Southwestern and Trinity.
